Therapy that goes deeper than talk. Neurofeedback at Sadar Psychological — backed by over 40 years of clinical experience.

Our Story
Where This All Started
In the late 1990s, Mitchell and Angelika Sadar were doing some of the hardest clinical work imaginable — contracted in nursing homes and maximum security prisons, working with people whose challenges ran deeper than talk therapy could reach. The time constraints were real. But so was something else: a growing recognition that for many of the people they were working with, the barriers weren't just psychological. They were neurological.
They started in the basement practicing on each other; today, Mitchell runs every new protocol on himself before introducing it to a client.
Around the same time, they began working with peak performance clients: athletes and professionals where biofeedback was a natural fit. They introduced clients to heart rate variability training, the Interactive Metronome, and ultimately neurofeedback — the most powerful extension of that work, applied to the most powerful system in the body: the brain.
The results spoke for themselves. Clients who had spent years in talk therapy wrapped up their work and referred family members who had previously not been open to therapy of any kind.. Something about neurofeedback reached people differently.
Then came the moment that clarified everything. Mitchell submitted two identical bids to continue his prison work: one that included neurofeedback at a lower cost, and one without it at a higher cost. The high cost proposal without neurofeedback was selected, signaling that the system wasn't yet ready.
That was the turning strike. Since then, the mission at Sadar has been to increase the understanding of and access to and acceptance of an approach to care that works — even when the institutions haven't caught up yet. The public is catching up though, and growing interest in self-regulation, brain health, and alternative therapies means the conversation is finally catching up. Neurofeedback has been quietly studied for decades and Sadar has been here the whole time.

Our Philosophy
Understanding Your Brain Changes Everything
Most of our clients come to us having already done years of work. They've tried therapy, learned strategies, read everything they could find. Many of those things helped, but there's often a sense that they're still fighting their brain rather than working with it.
That feeling usually has a neurological explanation. There's something specific their brain is doing, a pattern that talk therapy alone can't reach: not because talk therapy isn't valuable, but because some patterns need to be trained, not just understood.
A brain-based approach starts with data. From there, the path forward becomes clearer whether that means neurofeedback, body-based support, addressing how your environment affects brain efficiency, or identifying which medications are most likely to work with your brain rather than against it.

A Community of Providers You Can Trust
Why We Refer Rather Than Treat
When we refer you to a provider, there's a good chance they learned from us. Mitchell and Angelika Sadar were among the first practitioners in the US. - to adopt neurofeedback drop late and call it the 90s, and have spent the decades since training nearly 1,000 practitioners: from introductory certification to advanced protocols for trauma, heart rate variability in school settings, and peak performance on professional sports teams.
That depth of training is recognized across the field. Mitchell and Angelika are recipients of the AAPB Catalyst Leader Award, the BFE Education Award, and the Joel F Lubar Award, and are listed as primary trainers in neurofeedback by the CEBC.
But credentials only tell part of the story. The providers we refer to don't just carry a certification, they carry years of our clinical experience with them, and ongoing access to our guidance and community as they continue to grow.
